These meals can be introduced to babies at around 8 months of age. By this time your baby will be well practiced at eating smooth purées of vegetables and fruits. Babies at this stage rely a lot less on the routine of breast milk or formula milk. At this time your child will start teething and be looking for things to chew to help them relieve teething pain. Chunky purées are a great way to help speed up chewing tendencies.
Babies who also start to grab things and chew them with their gums are ready to move to Stage 3. This is an indication that they are getting their first set of teeth and are ready to exercise their gums. Mouthing and munching encourages a baby to move their tongue inside their mouth. This gives the child awareness of their mouth. Introducing teethers is another great way to stimulate this behaviour.
